3 Reasons to Outsource Your Photo Editing

Nilo Burke Photography three reasons to hire an editor and outsource your photo editing

As we begin 2017, our social media feeds are filled with out favorite fellow creatives’ 2017 goals inspiring us to, not only make specific goals for our own business, but also be encouraged by them and stick to those goals. So, I am here to encourage you to make outsourcing one of your goals for your business in 2017. Here are 3 Reasons why you should consider outsourcing your editing:

  • Quick turn around time from a private editor: When you come home from photographing a wedding, the last thing on your mid is to cull 2500 photographs and then edit them. That is why your editing sits on your To Do list for weeks before you finally decide to sit down and crank out the gallery. This is NOT because you don’t love your clients or because you aren’t in love with your images. The ONLY reason is that you are overwhelmed. You have so much on your plate and you are tempted to put editing at the bottom of the list. That is where a private editor can crank out your gallery for your in record time. This will have many benefits. One of them being an amazingly quick turn around time for your clients who are anxiously waiting to see their beautifully curated images by their favorite photographer: YOU!
  • Focus on the growing your business: How many ideas do you have to grow your business? You are sitting at the stop light. The first things that pop into your mind are half a dozen ways you can grow your business. But in order to bring all the creative to life, you need time. Precious time that you are spending culling and editing. The HOURS that you spend culling and editing, you could be dedicating to growing your business such as blogging that brilliant idea you had, writing a Thank You note to your client who sent you a  birthday gift (we LOVE those clients especially), updating your website with the most recent images you’ve captured (how many of you have websites that were updated a few years ago?) and finally take the time to connect with fellow vendors and creatives in the industry.
  • Gain precious family time: How often do we plan on spending time with family and friends over the weekend and then end up editing half the day on Saturday and half the day on Sunday. And if you have a shoot planned on either day, kiss family time goodbye. You owe it to your family to be there for them. After all, one of the reasons that we own and run our business and strive to work so hard is our family. We grow and fall even more in love with our work when we have quality time with our loved ones. Editing takes time away from them. It’s time to outsource your editing and get back to the dinner table to enjoy a meal, the couch to get one more snuggle in before bedtime, and the park because even you need fresh air!

Outsource your editing, folks.

I am here to help take editing off your “To-Do” list.

My 2017 Business Goals

Nilo Burke Photography Brides and Grooms

Happy New Year, friends!

And just like that, 2017 is here to stay. What a blessing to celebrate another year of life with our family and friends as well as hope to meet and bless new friends along the way. New memories to be made. New goals to be set! If you are reading this blog post and wondering who I am, allow me to briefly introduce myself. My name is Nilo Burke, and I am the owner and photographer of Nilo Burke Photography serving couples in Virginia, Washington D.C. as well as Maryland. I have been in business since 2010 and specialize in photographing weddings. As we begin a new year, I would like to pause and take a moment to share with you all the ways that I plan on making my clients’ experience with me a better one. A new year calls for new goals, so here we go:

Goal 1: Edit and print the Bridal Guide I’ve been working on for two years and share it with every new 2017 couple in order to help them plan for their engagement as well as wedding day celebration.

Goal 2: Blog three times a week.

Goal 3: Reach out and connect with my fellow photographer community in person as opposed to exclusively on social media.

Goal 4: Create a Client Corner on my website where current and prospective clients can find answers to all of their questions related to their wedding day photography.

Goal 5: Create dedicated weekends that I can spend with my family and 100% away from all electronics.

Goal 6: Read Dave Ramsey’s money management books.

Goal 7: Print family photos and hang them in every room of our home to celebrate the loved ones closest to my heart.

Goal 8: Provide photo editing services to fellow photographers and take editing off their todo list.

Goal 9: Host a Spring Styled shoot.

Goal 10: Submit my work to more online blogs.

Goal 11: Work diligently to improve service to my clients and make their wedding day the memorable one yet.

Goal 12: This is a BIG one! Submit a real wedding to at least one magazine!

Friends, what are some of YOUR goals for 2017? Share them in the comment section and include a link to your blog or social media post so that we can show you some love.

Happy 2017, folks! Cheers to a beautiful year!

Christmas Portrait Session

Friends,

This week I’ve received many beautiful Christmas cards in the mail from family and friends. These cards are special to me because they contain the photographs of my loved ones. The ones who are near and ones who are several hundred miles away. I miss them dearly, and I feel so much joy looking at their smiling faces as I walk by my refrigerator covered in Christmas cards.

I love the idea of printing Christmas photos on cards and sending them to family and friends. However, since Lexy came into our lives last year, I’ve been trying to send photographs, printed and digital, to my loved ones because I know that they may want to print and frame a few of them. This is the best time of the year for photographs, and if you would like to give the gift of beautiful memories and happy smiles to your grandmother, your aunt who lives five states away, and your mother who keeps asking for an updated photo of you, then join me for a Christmas photo session of your own at the beautiful Snap Space Studios in the heart of Historic Downtown Fredericksburg, Virginia.

I have reserved the studio space for a very limited number of hours. Please contact me ASAP to reserve your spot. Here are a few details:

  • The shoot will last 45 minutes in a beautiful and perfectly warm and cozy studio with Christmas music playing in the background.
  • You will receive 20-40 edited high resolution digital files of your beautiful photographs in an online gallery from which you can easily download the photographs and share with family and friends.
  • You will receive your digital gallery within 36 hours of your reserved session.
  • There will be some treats for the kiddos too! So bring them along!

Your total investment is $220 payable via cash, check, debit/credit card or PayPal. A $75 non-refundable fee will be collected upon your reservation with the remaining balance due 24 hours before your reserved time.

First Birthday-Lexy Grace

Friends,

Stephanie and I began planning Lexy’s One Year photo session months ago. We discussed several ideas, and I was blown away by how wonderfully she brought all the ideas to life. She put so much heart and love into my baby girl’s photo session, and I will be forever thankful to her for capturing these images. My family and I are going to cherish these photographs forever. Lexy wasn’t sure what was going on at first, but she caught on to the idea that the celebration was all about her. I was jumping around behind Stephanie to get Lexy to laught. Low and behold, she finally flashed a smile for us. I should’ve know! This girl is one sweet child, but when it comes to smiling on a cue, that’s not her style.

I do want to say one thing that’s on my heart: Print your images. Frame them. Hang them on your walls. Create memories and celebrate them in your home by framing your photographs and creating a Family & Friends wall. Show them off to the world. Not just on Facebook, but also in your home. When you are having a bad day and you walk by one of these images, you will remember that your children, your parents, your spouse, your friends are there to love you, and they are the most important part of your life. They are your family.

I hope you enjoy these photos and love them as much as we do!

ENJOY!

Monday Musings: Baby Luke is here!!!

Baby Luke is here!!!!

Friends,

My sister-in-law and her husband welcomed their son 11 days before his due date, and we are so glad that he came early so that we can LOVE on him longer!!!

He is such a precious little baby boy. So “chill”, according to his mama! He is super healthy and so is my sister-in-law. We went to visit them at the hospital the day he was born. These photos were taken less than 12 hours after his birth, and you can tell just how very handsome he is!

Congrats to my sister-in-law and her husband and the entire family! We are so excited to welcome little Luke to our “Tribe”!

Send him and his family lots of love and prayers, and enjoy these photographs!

Monday Musings: A baby is on his way!

Friends,

The summer is almost over, and I have many things I have yet to do on my “Summer 2016 To Do” list, but one thing that I have thoroughly enjoyed about this summer is how much family time I have been blessed with. I got to spend time with my family and my husband’s family on several occasions, which is very rare and doesn’t happen very much throughout the year. It is a blessing. Truly.

I spend the last Saturday of August photography my sister-in-law and her husband as they are just a few weeks away from welcoming their little boy into this world. It is such an exciting time for them. For all of us in the family. We have loved showering them with love all summer long, and we have been waiting patiently for the little baby to arrive.

Just a few more weeks and we will be able to hold the little angel in our arms. For now, enjoy the love that Megan and Tim for generously give to each other in these photographs. It was such a pleasure to photograph them.

Enjoy!

Guys, these two are going to make the most wonderful parents this world has ever known!

Monday Musings: Lexy’s 10 Month Impromptu Shoot

Friends,

This little girl is growing too fast for me. Way too fast.

I am trying my very best to enjoy every minute that I hold her, kiss her beautiful cheeks and snuggle with her.

A few days ago I got a new-to-me lens and wanted to try it out on Lexy and her big sister. We just went outside and I started shooting.

Well, as you can see, Lexy’s sister is a natural, and Lexy is learning from her little by little.

These two lovelies are gracing my blog this Monday, and I am thankful to God for every second of every day that I have with my loved ones. They are the ultimate gift.

Enjoy!
