Abundance vs. Scarcity Mindset of Goal Setting
Abundance vs. Scarcity Mindset of Goal Setting is a concept I’ve learned from Brooke Castillo of The Life Coach School. To be completely honest with you, goal setting is the same as a roller coaster ride for me. I get super excited about it and get in line and anticipate all the fun I am going to have. The other people on the roller coaster screaming and shouting and seemingly having a great time. All I am thinking is, “Man! I am going to have JUST as much fun!” Now it’s me and the roller coaster. I am about to get on the ride, and I realize I AM SCARED TO DEATH OF ROLLER COASTERS!
What was I even thinking? At this point it is too late to turn around. I HAVE to get on the ride and cry or throw up or pass out or have fun! My stomach sinks each time the ride takes a dip into what seems like an endless drop! After this crazy ride, it is over just as fast at it began. The craziest part is I WANT TO GET ON IT AGAIN!!!
Can you see how goal setting can be like this crazy UP and DOWN motion?
A fork in the road:
- Here is what makes goal setting fun: the anticipation of completing each goal and experiencing the resulting end of it.
- Here is what makes goal setting horrible: the fear that we will never get off our behind and will never accomplish the goals we’ve set out to achieve.
What do we do? We don’t do it and quit before we begin.
I have been in this boat for maaaaaaaany years, and now I am finally getting the courage to get out of that boat. I found Brooke Castillo’s The Life Coach School Podcast through my friend and fitness coach in 2018 and I haven’t looked back! This technique I am about to share with you I have learned from her. I have applied this technique to many situations in my life and they have always worked in my favor!
So let’s get started!
The technique Brooke talks about is “Sandwiching” your ideas. Whatever they may be.
Scarcity is something we can work through in our minds if we think about our goals from the point of view of “Sandwiching”. Here is the chart I use:

The surest way to fail, is never to have begun in the first place!
This technique teaches you so many values, but one important one is a spirit of Gratitude. It teaches you to look at the bigger picture and see that you have so much and have accomplished so much. You don’t NEED to want from a place of emptiness, you can WANT from a place of ABUNDANCE!
I have applied this technique to my relationships (both personal and professional), to money, paying of debt, the traffic, my personal issues that I deal with internally and my want to change my personal habits such as procrastination, self images, self criticism, comparison to other, jealousy, and so much more.
I want to keep this short and sweet!
Please let me know your thoughts about this work and tell me how you plan on using it in your life! This Abundance vs. Scarcity Mindset of Goal Setting is definitely worked for me and I will be using this technique for many years to come! I wish you the very best!
Sending you guys a TON of love!
